Step into the villages of Narayanganj, and you will hear it before you see it: the rhythmic, hypnotic clatter of the wooden handlooms. Here, the art of Jamdani weaving is passed down from father to son, a silent language spoken through threads of cotton and silk.
Historically patronized by Mughal emperors, the Jamdani technique is characterized by its "supplementary weft" process. The weaver manually adds thicker threads alongside the standard warp to create geometric and floral motifs that appear to float on the surface of the translucent fabric.
At Aranya, our mission is to sustain these artisan communities. We work directly with over 500 weavers across rural Bangladesh, providing them with ethically sourced yarns, natural dyes, and fair-trade compensation. Our design interventions are minimal—we simply provide a canvas for their ancestral brilliance to shine.
